Landshut Castle
Burg Landshut rises picturesquely above Bernkastel-Kues and offers breathtaking views over the Moselle River and the surrounding vineyards.
The castle ruin dates back to the 13th century and was built on the remains of a Roman fortress.
There is also an upscale German restaurant located within the castle grounds.

Schloss Veldenz
Schloss Veldenz liegt oberhalb von Thalveldenz nahe Bernkastel-Kues und war im 15. Jahrhundert die größte Burganlage der Region. Trotz Zerstörung im 17. Jahrhundert sind die beeindruckenden Ruinen bis heute erhalten und erzählen von der einstigen Macht der Grafen von Veldenz.

Manderscheid Upper and Lower Castles
Manderscheid in the Volcanic Eifel impresses visitors with a “double pack” of castles — the Upper and Lower Castles stand opposite each other above the wild Lieser Gorge — and with a surprisingly alpine extra: the Manderscheid Castle via ferrata.
The secured climbing route (category B/C) leads over ladders, steel cables, and rock ledges directly through the gorge and offers spectacular close-up views of both ruins.
Combined with the panoramic circular trail between the castles and hikes to nearby maars (e.g. Meerfelder Maar), Manderscheid easily fills an active day trip full of nature and castle romance.
Eltz Castle
Eltz Castle is a hilltop castle dating back to the 12th century and one of the most famous castles of its kind in Germany.
It is located a bit further away, but is considered the “most beautiful castle in Europe,” a “fairy tale in stone,” and the “epitome of a knight’s castle.” That alone makes the journey worthwhile.
During opening hours, visitors can explore the inner courtyard and the treasury or enjoy drinks and fries on site.
You can park directly at Eltz Castle. It is also possible to park further away and hike to the castle.
