Eltz Castle
Eltz Castle is a hilltop castle dating back to the 12th century and is one of the most famous of its kind in Germany.
It is considered the “most beautiful castle in Europe,” a “fairy tale in stone,” and the “epitome of a knight’s castle.”
During opening hours, visitors can explore the inner courtyard and the treasury, or enjoy a drink and fries on site.
Parking is available directly at the castle. It is also possible to park further away and hike to the castle through the surrounding forest landscape.

Manderscheid Upper Castle & Manderscheid Lower Castle
Manderscheid in the Volcanic Eifel is famous for its “double castle” — the Upper and Lower Castles facing each other above the dramatic Lieser Gorge.
A special highlight is the Manderscheid Castle Via Ferrata. This secured climbing route (difficulty B/C) leads through the gorge via ladders, steel cables, and rock ledges, offering spectacular close-up views of both castle ruins.
Combined with the panoramic circular trail between the castles and hikes to nearby volcanic maars such as the Meerfelder Maar, Manderscheid offers a full day trip packed with nature, adventure, and castle romance.
Burg Metternich
Die Burg Metternich thront oberhalb des Moselorts Beilstein und stammt aus dem 12. Jahrhundert. Obwohl sie heute eine eindrucksvolle Ruine ist, sind Teile der Mauern, Türme und Gewölbe gut erhalten und bieten einen authentischen Einblick ins Mittelalter. Von der Anlage aus eröffnet sich ein herrlicher Panoramablick über Beilstein und die Moselschleife. Eine kleine Gastronomie in den alten Gemäuern lädt zudem zum Verweilen ein.

Landshut Castle
Landshut Castle is picturesquely located above Bernkastel-Kues and offers a stunning view over the Moselle River and the surrounding vineyards.
The castle ruins date back to the 13th century and were built on the remains of a Roman fortress.
There is also an upscale restaurant serving traditional German cuisine on site.
