The Moselle Trail
The Moselsteig is a long-distance hiking trail stretching 365 km from Perl to Koblenz.
The trail is divided into 24 stages, many of which are also ideal as half-day hikes.
Stages 19 and 20 of the Moselsteig are located close to the Holiday Home Apple Tree.

Cochem - Treis Karden
Auf diesem Abschnitt zeigt sich der Moselsteig besonders abwechslungsreich. Er bietet attraktive Abstecher, etwa zu einem beeindruckenden Wasserfall im Naturschutzgebiet Dortebachtal, das mit seinem beinahe exotisch wirkenden Kleinklima fasziniert. Ebenso laden die idyllischen Weinorte entlang der Strecke zu gemütlichen Einkehrpausen ein. Direkt am Weg selbst ermöglicht der Archäologie-Park Martberg eine spannende Zeitreise in die originalgetreu rekonstruierten Gebäude eines ehemaligen keltisch-römischen Bergheiligtums.
Auch landschaftlich hat die Etappe viel zu bieten: Der Weg führt durch herrlichen Hochwald, durch weitläufige Weinberge und entlang malerischer Bachtäler, bis schließlich das Etappenziel Treis-Karden erreicht ist.
Dank der Bahnhöfe in Klotten und Pommern lässt sich die lange Strecke gut in zwei oder drei Teilabschnitte aufteilen und eignet sich dadurch auch für Familien.

Moselsteig – Stage 20
Treis-Karden – Moselkern
This stage of the Moselsteig begins impressively with culture and history.
Passing the “Moselle Cathedral,” the St. Castor Collegiate Church in Treis-Karden, the trail quickly climbs steeply into nature. One of the most remarkable features along this section is the unusual wild boxwood vegetation.
The route then continues along demanding paths on the edge of the hillside and through steep vineyards, accompanied by spectacular views into the rugged Krailsbach gorge.
A particular highlight of the tour is Eltz Castle — one of the most famous landmarks in German history. Hidden away in the Elzbach Valley, the castle survived both the Thirty Years’ War and the War of the Palatine Succession without being destroyed.
After this impressive section, the trail follows the Elzbach stream downhill to the wine village of Moselkern.

Der Mosel-Camino
Grundsätzlich wäre es möglich diesen Pfad bis nach Santiago de Compostela zu folgen. Der Mosel-Camino ist ein Teil des Jakobswegs und etwa 160 Kilometer lang. Der Pilgerweg führt von Koblenz-Stolzenfels bis zur Benediktinerabtei St. Matthias in Trier. Er bietet den Pilgern und Wanderern eine abwechslungsreiche Strecke durch das malerische Moseltal, vorbei an historischen Städten, beeindruckenden Burgen und idyllischen Weinbergen. Auf seinem Verlauf teilt sich der Mosel-Camino in bestimmten Abschnitten Wanderpfade mit dem Moselsteig.

2. Etappe Mosel Camino
Alken - Treis Karden
Die zweite Etappe des Mosel-Camino verbindet eindrucksvoll Mosellandschaft mit sportlichen Herausforderungen. Nach ruhigem Beginn durch die Weinorte an der Mosel wird der Weg zunehmend anspruchsvoller und führt über schmale Pfade und aussichtsreiche Höhen.
Besondere Höhepunkte sind der weite Talblick vom Küppchen sowie die märchenhaft im Elzbachtal gelegene Burg Eltz. Mehrere steile An- und Abstiege — insbesondere hinauf zum Rotherhof und hinab nach Karden — verlangen Kondition und Trittsicherheit.
Belohnt wird man mit abwechslungsreicher Natur, stillen Waldpassagen und schönen Ausblicken bis zum Etappenziel in Treis-Karden.

Mosel Camino – Stage 3
Treis-Karden – Bullay
This long and demanding stage of the Mosel Camino begins in Treis-Karden and initially climbs gently, later more steeply, through forests and vineyards.
One of the highlights of the route is a visit to Maria Engelport Monastery before continuing on to Beilstein with its charming medieval atmosphere.
The trail repeatedly offers wide panoramic views over the Moselle Valley and crosses several ridgelines that require good fitness and stamina.
At the end of the hike, you reach the picturesque village of Bullay, surrounded by vineyards and the Moselle River.
You can conveniently take the train to Treis-Karden and then hike back to Bullay and the holiday home.

Other Hiking Trails
Although not as famous as the Camino de Santiago, the many other hiking trails in the region offer just as many special and memorable moments.
There is a wide variety of hiking routes in the surrounding area. Leisure walkers can enjoy short circular trails with only gentle inclines, while more adventurous hikers who like to use their hands as well will find several via ferrata climbing routes with different levels of difficulty.

Karden-Castle Eltz-Moselkern
From Karden uphill to the Windhauser Höfe. Continue to the Rothenhof forester's lodge. Further down to the Eltzbach. Up and over to Eltz Castle. Through the Elzbach valley down to Moselkern. From Moselkern by train to Karden.

Boxwood hiking trail
The last part of this hike leads along the Buchsbaum-Wanderweg (boxwood hiking trail), which gives it its name. Before that we pass the castle Eltz, which was built at the beginning of the 12th century and is one of the most beautiful castles in Germany. The hike is possible directly from the vacation home.

The Calmont Via Ferrata
Neef – Ediger – Neef
The Calmont Via Ferrata is certainly one of the most beautiful hikes you can experience in the Moselle Valley — a spectacular climbing trail through the steepest vineyard in Europe near Bremm on the Moselle River.
Sure-footedness and a head for heights are definitely recommended for this route.
The trail offers breathtaking views of the Moselle landscape, steep vineyard terraces, and the surrounding villages of Neef and Ediger-Eller.

Geierlay Loop Trail
Mörsdorf
The Geierlay Loop Trail is a popular hiking route in the Hunsrück region, famous for the spectacular Geierlay Suspension Bridge — one of the longest pedestrian suspension bridges in Germany.
The circular trail leads through picturesque forests, steep valleys, and charming villages.
Along the route, numerous viewpoints offer impressive views over the Mörsdorf stream valley.
The hike combines nature, adventure, and excitement, making it suitable for both families and ambitious hikers.

HeimatSpur Waterfall Adventure Trail
Bad Bertrich
The HeimatSpur Waterfall Adventure Trail leads through the wild and romantic landscape of the Erdenbach Valley and offers impressive panoramic views from the Hohenzollern Tower.
The highlight of the hike is the Kliding Waterfall, which, at 28 metres high, is considered the tallest waterfall in the Eifel region.
Along the route, hikers can also discover highlights such as the prehistoric caves at Falkenlay, the Maisch spring, and the Falkenlay nature reserve.
The trail follows narrow paths and rocky climbs while offering numerous scenic impressions throughout the hike.

Moselle Riverside Walk
Treis-Karden – Cochem
The Moselle Cycle Path from Treis-Karden to Cochem is very well suited for walks with a stroller or even a wheelchair.
Far away from traffic and with flat, even paths, it offers the opportunity to walk directly along the Moselle River and enjoy nature at its best.
By car, you can park at the Hagebaumarkt and from there easily find the riverside path.
Along the way, there are passenger ferries that can take you to the other side of the Moselle. Both riverbanks have accessible cycle paths.
