DISCOVER THEM SPECTACULAR RIVER LANDSCAPE

THE MOSEL

Here, you can expect ancient world cultural heritage, impressive castles, exquisite cuisine, historic wine towns and cities, Moselle cycle paths, and of course, a beautiful hiking region for relaxed walks or climbing tours on the Calmontsteig, the steepest vineyard in Europe.

Cycling Routes

The Moselle and Eifel regions offer a highly varied network of cycling routes — from quiet, flat paths directly along the Moselle River to peaceful trails through forests, along former railway tracks, and through picturesque vineyard and hill landscapes.

The cycling infrastructure is very well developed: the routes are consistently signposted, many sections are paved, and there are numerous opportunities for breaks, e-bike charging stations, bike rentals, and connections to trains or bike buses.

Long-distance routes such as the Moselle Cycle Path connect charming towns and popular sights throughout the region and can easily be combined into shorter or longer tours depending on your preferences.

Moselle Cycle Path – Stage 9

Cochem – Löf

This stage of the Moselle Cycle Path between Cochem and Löf delights cyclists with an impressive backdrop of castles along the Moselle River.

With views of the majestic Reichsburg Cochem, the tour begins and follows the left bank of the Moselle at a relaxed pace through the wine villages of Klotten and Pommern to the historic Moselle town of Treis-Karden.

A stop is highly recommended at the striking three-towered St. Castor Collegiate Church, also known as the “Moselle Cathedral,” which is considered one of the cultural highlights of the region.

Especially convenient for guests of the Holiday Home Apple Tree: the accommodation is located approximately halfway along this stage. You can comfortably start in either direction on the Moselle Cycle Path — upstream toward Cochem or downstream toward Löf.

Hunsrück-Moselle Cycle Path

Treis-Karden – Lütz – Lieg – Kastellaun – Emmelshausen – Burgen – Treis-Karden

The Hunsrück-Moselle Cycle Path is a varied route connecting the heights of the Hunsrück region with the Moselle Valley.

At first, the route follows quiet and open highland landscapes along the watershed between the Nahe and Moselle rivers. It then gradually descends into the valley on lightly trafficked roads and rural farm tracks.

Along the way, the route passes small villages such as Mannebach, Sabershausen, and Petershäuserhof, offering beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside throughout the journey.

In Lieg, the route begins a smooth and fast descent through the Lützbach Valley to Lütz and continues onward into the Moselle Valley to Treis-Karden.

Distance: 59 km
Cycling time: 5 hours
Difficulty level: Moderate

A special highlight is a cycling tour along the Maare-Moselle Cycle Path.

This approximately 58-kilometre route follows a former railway line from the Volcanic Eifel region through idyllic valleys, over impressive viaducts, and through tunnels all the way to the picturesque town of Bernkastel-Kues on the Moselle River.

Thanks to the gentle downhill gradient and the well-developed cycling paths, the tour is ideal for families, leisure cyclists, and nature lovers.

The paths are well developed, partly flat and partly with gentle climbs, leading through charming wine villages, peaceful forests, and scenic viewpoints.

From the Graach Schäferei, many beautiful routes can be explored directly — without long travel distances, but with plenty of stunning landscapes and authentic Moselle atmosphere.
